Registration Includes: Live meet-up once per week with Erika and your photography workgroup to show ideas and work in progress. Get feedback on your project’s theme, sequencing, edits, etc. Share your work live in weekly zoom meetings and throughout the week online in easy the to use learning management software CANVAS. Receive, support and ideas from fellow photographers. Discuss concept, technique, presentation, artist statements, how to pushyourself and more. For advanced photographers.

Course technical requirements include access to the Canvas learning management system website and Zoom videoconferencing software (both free). The weekly live chat on Zoom occurs once a week on Mondays, and is recorded and posted in the canvas classroom for students who cannot attend the live chat. Your creative projects, and other self-study are done during the week when your time allows.

This 4-week online workshop is an intermediate photoshop technique class for photographers. Topics covered include: Lightroom/ACR to Photoshop workflow, Advanced tonal and color control using curves, masking and blend modes. Advanced retouching techniques using layer masks, retouching tools, burn and dodge & frequency separation. Advanced sharpening techniques and more.
- 4-week online course
- Asynchronous video lectures, exercises, creative projects, demonstrations, feedback on your progress, one on one help each week.
- 2-hour weekly Zoom video chat is the only synchronous activity
- Recorded live each week for when you can’t make it
- Total time requirement: 4-6 hours/week

1. Editing D-SLR Video with Photoshop CC
Using Photoshop CC, learn how to navigate the basic Photoshop timeline for video – that’s right video! Learn to use tonal and color corrections in Photoshop and apply them to video as well as compositing stills, audio,and other video using Photoshop’s simple interface. Export for delivery toprofessional video editing software such as Premiere Pro as well as to view on the web and mobile devices. Your D-SLR camera has a video function – learn to maximize the beauty of your moving images with simple post production basics in an application you already have.
PRE-REQ: Knowledge of layers and masks in Photoshop.
BRING: 2-3 short videos to edit (less than 10 minutes), stills and sound if desired to combine.
2. ADOBE LIGHTROOM, Level 1: Library and Develop Modules
This 2-day weekend workshop introduces the fundamentals of Lightroom and gives tips & tricks on how to professionally develop your digital images. Focus is on setup, workflow, organization, image management, rating, editing, non-destructive image processing, and delivery of images regardless of output type. The course includes open lab time to work on your own images. Lightroom puts the focus on images being processed and managing large volumes of images. Flash galleries, websites, and self-published books can be made from this single program, which works seamlessly with all Adobe programs. BRING:25 Unprocessed images – RAW or JPEG

3. ADOBE LIGHTROOM, Level 2: Delivery Modules
This 1-day workshop explores the output delivery modes of Lightroom including printing with icc profiles, making and uploading websites and various slide show deliveries, book making and mapping. The course includes some open lab time to work on developing and printing images, creating web galleries and slideshows. Lightroom 1 or prior knowledge of the Library and Develop modules required. Lightroom puts the focus on images being organized, processed and outputted. Flash galleries, websites, prints and self-published books can be made from this single program which works seamlessly with all Adobe programs. BRING: 25 unprocessed images in RAW, JPG, TIFF, or PSD format that you desire to output in the above delivery forms.

4. DIGITAL MASTER PRINTING (Intermediate)
You’ve got some beautiful images – but how do you properly prepare them for output as beautiful pigment prints? Using Photoshop tips and tricks as well as understanding the relationship to archival printers will help you unlock the gorgeous print you have been waiting to output! See through the eyes of master printer and award-winning instructor, Erika Gentry, and gain a broader understanding of the technical artistry of digital printing. Workshop topics include basic corrections, best practices for B&W image conversion, tone control with levels and curves, dodging and burning, layer masking, sharpening, and using the advanced black and white print driver controls for Epson printers. Paper and ink will be provided and examples of various paper substrates will also be available. BRING: 6 color or B&W image files in RAW, JPG, TIFF or PSD format – no correction necessary.

5. EXPOSURE AND PHOTO MERGE TECHNIQUES USING Photoshop (Intermediate/Advanced)
A 2-day intensive course in advanced shooting and processing techniques. HDRI “high dynamic range imaging” is a technique using camera exposure and software to create images with a greater dynamic range (the range of values between light and dark areas) through the process of tone mapping. Digital panoramic photography is a technique using overlapping camera exposures to “seam” together multiple images into one image with a perceived wide field of view. On day one, learn how to make proper exposures and explore your creativity on location. On day two, learn how to correct and process the images using Photoshop. PRE-REQ: Basic Photoshop and Level 1 Digital Photo, or equivalents. BRING: Digital SLR or digital camera with manual exposure adjustments and wide angle lens capabilities, and a tripod.

6. INDEPENDENT PROJECTS IN DIGITAL MASTER PRINTING
(Intermediate/Advanced Pre-req: Digital Master Printing)
This 4-session course has been designed as a sequel to Digital Master Printing 1 (required prereq), and is an open lab work session and critique group. As such, lectures and demonstrations will not be emphasized. Receive guidance, mentorship, and critique on your independent projects from your peer group as well as master printer and award-winning instructor, Erika Gentry. Practice the workflow techniques taught in Digital Master Printing 1, gain confidence using the Epson 11880 printer as a solo operator, and develop your eye through hands on practice. Get one-on-one help with basic corrections, best practices for B&W image conversion, tone control with levels and curves, dodging and burning, layer masking, sharpening, and using the paper profile and print driver controls for Epson printers. Some paper and ink is provided and examples of various paper substrates will also be available.

8. SHOOTING AND PROCESSING IN DIGITAL CAMERA RAW (Beginning)
A 1-day lecture, shoot, demo, and hands-on workshop that covers the details of RAW digital shooting and 16bit processing workflow using Adobe Camera RAW. Walk through properly exposing RAW images and then process them using ACR in Photoshop. Discussion of file types, camera RAW workflow, other third party ACR software, exposure calculation, and more. Learn the details of a professional workflow that will make a world of difference in maximizing your camera and its images. Computers with ACR plug-in supplied.
